Saturday, May 12, 2012: Join Certified Teacher Mark Darby for two workshops, “Foundations” running from 11-2pm, and “Opposites in Asanas: Connecting with Bandha, Core and Breath” from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.

Foundations: Learn how to move with your body instead of against it.

By moving with your body’s natural alignment, the prana will flow through you without blocks stopping it.

In this workshop we will explore basic asanas, with a particular focus on alignment and breathing, as well as how to link the asanas into a flowing sequence. We will cover the sun salutations & standing poses, building a solid
foundation from which to progress and get the most out of your practice.

Time: 11:00 am to approx 2:00pm

Opposites in Asanas: Connecting with Bandha, Core and Breath

Bandhas: No stability without core! Improve your practice through simple exercises and key asanas.

We will explore the interdependency and contradictions of the apparently opposite actions of connecting to the core versus stretching through the limbs. This will allow you locate your locks and move into your breath to free your practice!

Time: 2:30pm to approx. 5:30pm

Prices:

The prices are $55 per workshop or $100 for both + hst.

Astanga Vinyasa Yoga is a powerful practice developed in Mysore, India, by the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois – affectionately called Guruji. The system begins with postures (asanas) linked with breath and movement (vinyasa). The first sequence is known as Primary, then Second and so on. Each sequence starts with sun salutes, then flows through standing and seated postures, finishing with restorative poses and relaxation.

At the heart of this practice is a smooth breath, combined with internal locks (bandhas) and steady gazing (drishti). Consistent repetition of the traditional sequence can purify and help to strengthen the body while calming and focusing the mind, as thousands of Astanga students worldwide will attest. Enjoy!
